Byrne - Past and Future
Thos. S. Byrne, Ltd. was founded in Fort Worth in 1923 by Thomas Sneed Byrne, a native Texan and a graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Much of the Fort Worth skyline has been shaped by Byrne, from the original Firestone station on the West side to the award winning world class Amon Carter and Kimbell Art Museums in the cultural district.
Byrne is now in its third generation of management under the direction of John Avila, Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer. Under Avila's successful leadership, Byrne has taken almost a century of building experience into the twenty-first century, utilizing new technologies in construction to build projects that exemplify the highest standards the industry has to offer.
Byrne's Versatility
One of the hallmarks of Byrne's success is its versatility, exemplified by its ability to construct buildings ranging from high-rise office buildings, complex hospitals and related healthcare facilities, aviation facilities, sophisticated educational and institutional buildings, major retail centers, distribution and manufacturing facilities, to world-renowned museums, high-end residences and high quality, high finish specialty projects.
Thos. S. Byrne's specialty is in construction of projects within a negotiated guaranteed maximum price requiring a high degree of personalized management and both pre-construction and construction skills in which one or more of the following is required:
- Establishing, controlling and meeting an Owner's budget, starting with partially complete design documents through completion of construction;
- Unique architectural design and/or high quality finish;
- Scheduling complexity to meet tight time frames and/or maintain Owner's operations when in, or connecting to, existing facilities; and
- Highly-technical, complex facilities such as healthcare, laboratory, computer-related and aviation.
Thos. S. Byrne, Ltd. has maintained the capability to self-perform those portions of the work historically accomplished by the traditional General Contractor by maintaining a core group of carpenters, laborers, ironworkers and equipment operators for this purpose. The remaining portions of the work on most Byrne projects are subcontracted on an open shop basis utilizing both Union and Non-Union subcontractors, which has proven to be an efficient and effective process.
An important factor in the growth and continuity of Thos. S. Byrne, Ltd. is the volume of work it has performed on a negotiated basis for numerous repeat clients. Over the past 80 years Byrne has delivered over two hundred projects to more than sixty clients.
Byrne is an active member of the Associated General Contractors of America, Inc., North Texas Contractors Association and the Associated Builders & Contractors, Inc., and is the largest minority-owned general contractor in Texas.
Byrne has been a leader in construction organizations and associations throughout its history and has been the recipient of over seventy awards for excellence and innovation in construction.
Byrne's reputation for quality construction is backed by its integrity, stability, competency of its staff, and the desire to serve its clients in the best possible manner to provide them with finished structures that equal or exceed their expectations.
Byrne has been dedicated to excellence in construction for 80 years and looks forward to continued challenges as a leader in the construction industry.
