Mansfield High School - The Dedication of an Outstanding Byrne Project
08/26/2002
Mansfield, TX - On Sunday, August 25, 2002, the Building Dedication Ceremony for Mansfield High School took place in Mansfield, Texas with hundreds of people in attendance, among them MISD School Board officials, administrative personnel, teachers, students and their families, and well-wishers from throughout the community. Built on 70 acres, the 380,000 square foot facility opened its doors this fall to a student body of twenty-five hundred.
The school includes a Great Hall, spacious Commons Area, landscaped, circular courtyards, 1500 parking spaces, band hall, choir room, art rooms with atrium, a 300 seat theater, competition and practice gymnasiums, 25,000 square feet of field houses and maintenance and concession facilities, tennis courts, baseball, softball, and football stadiums. Built at a cost of $42 Million, the project's challenging 23 month fast track construction schedule included 150 days of rain. Byrne's project team overcame tough obstacles through proactive scheduling and daily meetings, delivering the project on time and within budget. According to James Sims, Project Superintendent, another challenging aspect of the job was the supervision of the installation of over 100,000 square feet of terrazzo flooring, which includes the hand painted Mansfield Tiger Logo emblazoned on the terrazzo flooring in the Great Hall.
John Avila, President and CEO stated, "Congratulations to project team members Bill Scott, Rick Yoder, James Sims, Darren Woodard, Steve Ricker and Roy Hyatt on the completion of this magnificent school. This project is the jewel in the crown of Byrne's education portfolio." Other members of the project team were 3D/International, Bond Program Manager, and Huckabee & Associates, Architect. Mansfield High School Principal Jerry Kirby referred to the new facility as "a showcase high school not only for our community, but for American education for decades to come."
