Pier 1 Imports Names Construction Companies for New Corporate Headquarters

Fort Worth, TX - Pier 1 Imports (NYSE:PIR) today announced its selection of the Manhattan Construction Company/Thos. S. Byrne, Ltd. Joint Venture to construct its new corporate headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas. The Manhattan/Byrne Joint Venture brings together two prominent construction firms in the region to complete this $90 million project.

MBC/Dunn Consultants, project manager for Pier 1's 20-story, 440,000-square-foot corporate headquarters to be built along the banks of the Trinity River in Fort Worth, has worked extensively with Manhattan Construction Company of Dallas and Thos. S. Byrne, Ltd. of Fort Worth.

For the project, Duda Paine Architects, LLP, of Durham, N.C., is the design architect. Other consultants include architect of record, Kendall/Heaton Associates, Inc. of Houston; Dallas-based interior architects, Gensler; landscape architects Talley Associates, Inc. of Dallas; and civil engineers Dunaway Associates of Fort Worth.

Construction is scheduled to begin in early January and will be completed in time for occupancy in early fall 2004.
